There is a pully that is operated by a plastic bolt located in the middle of the trunk. The spindle that holds the metal cable on mine broke and I need to replace it. This whole carrier unit is located just under the trunk and it is all connected as one piece. It is hooked to the frame by 5 bolts. 3 bolts toward the front of the van and 2 bolts toward the back bumper.
